This summer, I went to an outdoor concert at Sky Tavern and there was a table with beautiful watercolor prints displayed. Some high school girls standing near the table asked me, “Have you heard of Connor Fogal?” They then showed me this picture.
They proceeded to tell me about Connor, and how he is a local student who paints with a paint brush attached to his head because he was born with Cerebral Palsy. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of his work, and knowing how he created these beautiful paintings.
I purchased one of his prints, and when I got home, I visited his website, www.MyLOWNV.com to learn more about him (MyLOW stands for My Life On Wheels). Not only is Connor an amazing artist, but he lives life to the fullest. His website featured videos of him snow skiing, water skiing, sky diving and biking. MyLOW is an advocacy organization Conner founded to bring awareness to the world about all types of disabilities. He shares his day-to-day life with the public through social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Go-Cam videos. He also wants to bring to light things people with disabilities face that most people don’t even think about. Along with educating via social media, Connor raises money to assist other people with disabilities in following their dreams. He recently donated a portion of his calendar sales to send four young people to the Sky Tavern Adaptive Program.
Connor is currently a student at the University of Nevada, Reno in the to Independence Program at the University of is a two year certificate program for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities. However, because this program is a non-degree program that grants a certificate upon completion, Connor doesn’t qualify for student loans or grants. The drive and determination and talent of Connor Fogul truly inspires me. Learning his story touched me so much that I decided I wanted to personally fund a RMB giveaway of one of his prints so that I could share his story with you and further support Connor as he sells his art to fund his education.
