One of the great things about living in Reno is seeing how the community responds when we have an emergency. We have helped our neighbors who have lost their homes to wildfires and floods. We have grieved their losses when they have grappled with family tragedies, and most importantly, we have helped each other rebuild. It seems only natural that the Reno Community would do the same for the Houston community.

Our hearts go out to the many victims of Hurricane Harvey. And, we are also looking for ways to help. There are several places you can contribute online; the Mom 2.0 site has a great list on their site.

Sippees
Terri Hull of Sippee’s is collecting diapers for Houston until Labor Day.

Here in Reno, you can also go see Terri Hull over at Sippee’s or head over to the Atlantis this Thursday to donate to Houston families.

After talking to her friends in Texas this past weekend, Terri learned the Houston moms need diapers and wipes. All this week she is hosting a diaper drive for the San Antonio Diaper Bank, who will be helping families in Houston. It is called Reno Moms Sending Our Love to Texas, Houston Diaper Drive.

“We love to give back and have several charities we work with here in Reno including the Northern Nevada C
hildren’s Cancer Foundation. It is also nice to help out in a national disaster as well and lift each other up,” said Terri

The San Antonia Diaper Banks needs all sizes of diapers from newborn up to toddler’s Pull Ups, along with wipes. Want to help mom, how about some feminine products, a box of tampons or pads would be a great donation. I bet some of those Depends for grandma and grandpa would be welcomed, too. You know what else they need, new underwear in the package, all sizes from kids to adults, because right now clean underwear is a luxury folks.

In just a few days, Terri’s diaper drive has grown! Terri is collecting donations during business hours at Sippee’s until Labor Day, but there are several other drop off locations for those diaper donations in Reno, Carson City, Incline and Truckee:

  • Sippee’s Children’s Store 955 S. Virginia St. Reno
  • Michael Grace Salon 1091 Steamboat Parkway South Reno
  • Carson City Fire Department 777 Stewart St., Carson City – Please drop on the Admin side of the building until this Friday at 5 p.m., please do not call the Fire Department.
  • Incline Tahoe – Perfect Workout 930 Tahoe BLVD. Suite #202, Incline Village
  • Conecta School – 12716 Northwoods Blvd. Suite 5 Truckee CA
  • Think Kindness – 370 Casazza Dr. Reno

Call Sippee’s if you have questions at 775-329-2110 or 775-722-1197. Or check out their Facebook event page for more updates and new locations.

ThAtlantise Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is joining with Channel 2 News, the Reno Media Group, the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada and Project Bear Hugs for a Fundraiser Event for Hurricane Harvey in the  Atlantis’ West Parking Lot this Thursday, 8/31 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Project Bear HugsProject Bear Hugs and American Red Cross of Northern Nevada will be set up accepting American Red Crossnew or gently used stuffed animals, bedding, pillows, non-perishable food items, or cash donations to go directly to those affected by the historic flooding. And the great part is that you don’t even have to unbuckle the kids from their car seats when you are dropping off donations.

There are only a few of the different ways Reno is helping Houston. If you know of others, add them in the comments.

Let’s send Houston some love from Reno.
